Vice premier: Belarus’ government provided necessary assistance to agricultural sector

MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) – The government and the head of state have taken the necessary steps to assist the agricultural sector, and local actors are responsible for the effective use of these resources, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko said during a conference call to discuss harvesting, BelTA has learned.

According to the deputy prime minister, all the necessary measures have been taken, including during the spring field work. The area under crops, including the area under vegetables, was increased. Agricultural workers focused on securing the required amount of grain. In particular, they received help with partial reseeding after spring frosts, which gives confidence in achieving a comparable or better grain yield than last year.

“This year, the government, with your help, has gone to extraordinary lengths to provide agricultural workers with all the necessary assistance, which includes help with equipment and fertilizers. Yet, several objective issues in the regions still require attention,” the deputy prime minister emphasized.

He assured that agricultural workers, despite the difficult weather conditions, are determined to make the most of this harvest season and are confidently moving towards their goals.
“We will see in the autumn. You were right when you said that we did everything to help the farmers, even more than we had to do,” Aleksandr Lukashenko agreed.

The government helped resolve issues related to fuel and machinery. That said, the president warned against careless attitude to machinery and against theft.

“We pooled all the machinery together and gave it to the farmers. Meanwhile, grain is stolen, fuel is stolen, spare parts are not delivered on time, combine harvesters are not taken good care of, people go to work drunk. How come? Keep in mind that I am aware of all this when you will come to me asking for money,” the head of state said listing the problems revealed at some agricultural enterprises.
