Verenich on Belarus’ participation in international transportation corridors

MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) - Belarusian Railways is actively involved in new international transport corridor projects, Valery Verenich, who has been appointed the new head of Belarusian Railways, told the media, BelTA has learned.

Valery Verenich spoke about the work under the sanctions. "The hardest times are in the rear view mirror. As of today, we have explored new markets. We actively participate in the new international transportation corridors North-South, South-North. A number of meetings have been held with representatives of the states that are parties to these transportation corridors," he noted.

"In addition, the so-called sub-corridors South - Northwest, Northwest - South and so on are already in the pipeline," he added. “Now it is important to carry out some work on containerization, logistics and terminals and encourage domestic companies to use these corridors. Over the past period of this year, domestic transportation rose by 117%, outbound transportation - about 1.5-2% and inbound – by about 9%.”

Valery Verenich also talked about the cooperation with Russia regarding Belarus’ projects in Russian ports.

"As of today, the main routes for Belarusian products to the northwestern ports of Russia (Murmansk) and the Caspian Sea have been outlined. Today, we have built logistics. We can see the existing throughput capacity. We have worked out action plans, which together with Russian railroads will allow us to increase this throughput capacity both to the ports of the South and the ports of the North. This work will continue. We realize how important and significant it is today," the head of the Belarusian Railways said.

Valery Verenich emphasized that the Belarusian side is finding mutual understanding with its partners regarding tariffs.
