Unemployment in EAEU down 53.3%

MOSCOW, 17 May (BelTA) - Unemployment in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) decreased by 53.3% in March 2022, with the lowest jobless rate recorded in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Statistics Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

“The number of unemployed, registered in the employment services of the Eurasian Economic Union, was 979,500 people at the end of March 2022 and decreased by 53.3% compared with the same stretch a year ago,” the EEC said.

“The number of unemployed is 1.1% of the workforce. In 2021 it was 2.3%,” the Statistics Department said.

According to the EEC, there were 6,500 unemployed in Belarus in late March 2022, which is 0.2% of the workforce (8,600 and 0.2% in March 2021 respectively), while Kyrgyzstan had 76,900 unemployed, or 3% (79,100 and 3% in March 2021), Kazakhstan – 175,000, or 1.9% (197,800 and 2.2% in March 2021), Russia – 665,000, or 0.9% (1,748,300 and 2.3% in March 2021). The number of unemployed in Armenia decreased from 63,000 to 56,100 (2.3% to 0.9%) over the past year, the EEC said.

“According to the latest available data, in accordance with the methodology of the International Labor Organization, the unemployment rate in the EAEU is estimated at 4.5% of the workforce (Q4 2021), including 3.7% in Belarus (Q1 2022), 14.5% in Armenia (Q4 2021), 4.9% in Kazakhstan (Q4 2021), 5.8% in Kyrgyzstan (2020), 4.3% in Russia (Q4 2021),” the EEC Statistics Department said.
