MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – The truck traffic across the Belarusian segment of the EAEU customs border in 2020 went up by 9.5% year-on-year, Chairman of Belarus' State Customs Committee Vladimir Orlovsky said during a board meeting of the committee, BelTA has learned.
“In 2020, we had to work in the difficult conditions caused by the pandemic and border closure. The passenger traffic across the border slumped. However, there were no interruptions in freight transportation. More than 2.3 million freight vehicles moved across the Belarusian part of the EAEU customs border, about 6,500 trucks every day, which was up by 9.5% over 2019,” Vladimir Orlovsky noted.
The volume of freight shipped across the border by road increased by 6.5% to over 29 million tonnes. “If we take into account freight transportation by rail, this figure will exceed 100 million tonnes,” he added.
According to Vladimir Orlovsky, despite the pandemic, the State Customs Committee paid Br8.865 billion in customs payments to the budget in 2020, which was 2.6% above the annual target.
