Transport, construction named among key drivers of Belarus’ export growth

MINSK, 11 July (BelTA) – Belarus’ foreign trade is gaining momentum, Yulia Zubar, the head of the Foreign Trade Forecasting Department at the Economy Ministry of Belarus, said commenting on the results of trade in goods and services in January-May 2025, BelTA has learned.

During this period, exports of goods and services inched up by 0.4% year-on-year. This growth was driven by services, which saw an increase of 15.7% or nearly $0.6 billion in exports. Transport and construction were identified as major drivers of growth.

In January-May 2025, goods exports went down 3.1% or $0.5 billion. Higher average export prices failed to balance out lower physical export volumes.

Cooperation with distant countries continues to expand. Deliveries to Africa increased by 1.6 times, to Latin America by nearly 1.7 times, and to Southeast and Central Asia by 25%.

A reduction in imports amid rising exports in May 2025 resulted in a positive trade balance of $81 million and helped reduce the foreign trade deficit to $0.8 billion.
