Tasks outlined for new Belarusian economy minister

MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov presented the new Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar to the ministry’s staff, BelTA has learned.

Nikolai Snopkov said: “The president appointed Yuri Chebotar economy minister yesterday. Virtually his entire career took place within the walls of this ministry. He understands processes of the real economy very well. I believe that methodology and mechanics, the realization of five-year projections and annual projections need to change. They need to change radically. The world has changed. The economy has changed. Commercial relations have changed. Respectively our approaches have to change as well.”

In his words, it is necessary to keep in mind two factors while implementing these changes. “First, we will have a mobilization economy now and in the medium term. It will be necessary to stimulate the economic potential of primarily our manufacturing sector. Second, it is necessary to deprioritize reconciliation in the development of projections. There is no initiative, no stance in the Economy Ministry. And lengthy reconciliations are not productive,” the first deputy prime minister said. “The Economy Ministry has to decide what resources should go where depending on the interindustry balance, on the definition of priority branches of the economy that will pull up other industries. It is necessary to work out proposals and defend them.”

“We managed to do good analytics in the last two years. It is the most important part of the work of the economic thought. We see a full picture of the economy and see cause-and-effect relationships. However, in addition to stating facts it is necessary to make suggestions. It is necessary to come up with an understanding of the cause-and-effect relationships of the ongoing processes and work out proposals. As the president said, honest information allows making effective managerial decisions,” the official said.
