MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) - Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi outlined the tasks for the new government during a ceremony to introduce Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin appointed to the post by the head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko on 10 March, BelTA learned.

The deputy prime ministers will have an increased role in the current government according to the president. “Not only the role, but also the responsibility. Undoubtedly, each of them received personal and sectoral tasks. But three areas are the same for all of them. The first is building up the export capabilities of our country. Given the great impact of foreign trade on our economy, every vice prime minister shall coordinate the foreign economic part, being responsible for the efficiency of return of foreign currency earnings to the country and increasing the level of added value, competitiveness of our goods,” Dmitry Krutoi said. The second area is to monitor the most important investment projects. One or two investment projects for the next five-year program should be on the desk of each minister. Most likely, they will be approved as separate annexes in the program for the next five-year period. The third area is new technologies.”

“The tasks to be solved by the new government are clear. The House of Representatives gave the preliminary consent for the appointment of Aleksandr Turchin. In accordance with the Constitution, the government will prepare a program of actions within two months. Work will continue on the program of social and economic development of the Republic of Belarus for the next five-year period which will be presented at the Belarusian People's Congress. The goals of these documents are also clear-cut: to ensure a high standard of living in our country. The reserves to be tapped are also clear; the president talked about them a lot when appointing deputy prime ministers, and about sectoral tasks when appointing ministers. The main one is the to increase labor productivity,” Dmitry Krutoi emphasized. “If we want to remain competitive in our key markets of Russia and China, we need to step up substantially. Here, the government needs to think, perhaps, how to restructure the system of incentives and support for the leaders who provide a high level of added value and other indicators in their industries”.

The second important feature of the current government's work is a big focus on the regions. “In the current government we have several former governors, the mayor of Minsk, and this is in practice the actual implementation of the thesis of the president's election program: “Strong regions - strong country”. Communication with the regions should become closer, tighter and more substantive. All our regional programs, and there are many of them (such as One District - One Project, the revival of Polesie, Chernobyl-hit regions, integration structures of Vitebsk Oblast, and the pilot of Orsha District), should get a new lease of life, and this should give birth to new activities of regional level, which will help solve one of the key problems of our economy - the outflow of the economically active population from the majority of districts of the country”, Dmitry Krutoi said.

The new government has many tasks. “Each of the ministers knows what to do in their area in the near future. All deputy prime ministers are highly-qualified specialists and know the sectors they supervise very well. I want to wish the new government success in the implementation of the tasks and instructions that the president has set,” the head of the Belarus President Administration said.
