Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Mill doubles pulp output in 2020

MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – In 2020 Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Mill doubled its pulp output, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom Mikhail Kasko on 17 February.

According to the source, Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Mill has commissioned enterprises to make bleached sulfated pulp and viscose pulp. On the whole, in 2020 the company doubled its pulp output in comparison with 2019 and became a growth driver for the entire industry.

Mikhail Kasko noted that the company operates rather confidently. In 2020 its output was close to 65-70% of the intended output capacity. In 2021 it is necessary to raise the figure to 100% of the designed output capacity. All the products are in demand and sell in various export markets (China, Europe). Quite a lot of the output is sold domestically. There are no problems with sales at present. The quality is very high. The whiteness is sufficient to encourage European consumers to buy Belarusian pulp, the official said.

Mikhail Kasko pointed out that cellulose is an intermediate product for making other kinds of merchandise, first of all, paper, including wrapping paper and paper for sanitary needs and hygiene. “So, we shouldn't think only about export. Since we can make this kind of product in Svetlogorsk, we can offer paper of a higher quality to domestic consumers. For instance, the newsprint mill in Shklov can use cellulose to make wrapping paper, which Bellesbumprom enterprises can use to make paper bags and sacks and sell them on the home market, including to producers of flour and other bulk products,” the official said.
