Sugar beet planting in Belarus 46% complete

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) - Belarusian agricultural workers have planted sugar beet on 46% of the planned area, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 27 April, early spring crops (excluding corn, buckwheat and millet) were planted on the area of 541,700 hectares – 84.1% of the designated area. Planting was done on 72.2% of the designated area in Vitebsk Oblast, 93.9% of the area in Minsk Oblast, 34.5% of the area in Mogilev Oblast. Planting in Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast and Gomel Oblast was completed.

All in all, spring planting in Belarus was completed on the area of 741,600 hectares, or 33.4% of the total. Brest Oblast completed planting works on 46.3% of the planned area, Vitebsk Oblast – 29.5%, Gomel Oblast – 28.6%, Grodno Oblast – 50.6%, Minsk Oblast – 31.3%, and Mogilev Oblast – 13.9%. Belarusian agricultural workers are also planting colza (12,400 hectares, or 37.6% of the plan), flax (17,100 hectares, or 34.5%), sugar beet (45,300 hectares, or 46%), annual grasses (70,500 hectares, or 26.5%), vegetables (1,320 hectares, or 21.3%). Potatoes were planted on 1,390 hectares, or 6.75% of the target, maize – on 50,400 hectares, 4.76%.

A total of 1,012,000 hectares of soil (45.5% of the plan) was prepared for sowing spring crops. This year, these crops will be planted on the area of 2,221,900 hectares.
