Spring planting complete in five Belarusian oblasts

MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – Belarusian agricultural workers have finished spring planting in five Belarusian oblasts, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 4 May, early spring cereals and leguminous crops (excluding corn, buckwheat and millet) were planted on the area of 630,200 hectares, 97.8% of the targeted area. Planting was done on 64% of the designated area in Mogilev Oblast. The planting in Minsk Oblast, Vitebsk Oblast, Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast and Gomel Oblast was completed.

All in all, spring planting in Belarus was completed on the area of 1,149,500 hectares, or 51.7% of the total. Brest Oblast completed planting works on 67% of the planned area, Vitebsk Oblast – 50.5%, Gomel Oblast – 40.6%, Grodno Oblast – 68.9%, Minsk Oblast – 52.3%, and Mogilev Oblast – 30.7%. Belarusian agricultural workers are also planting colza (31,200 hectares, or 94.2% of the plan), flax (29,000 hectares, or 58.6%), sugar beet (75,100 hectares, or 76.3%), annual grasses (94,000 hectares, or 35.3%), vegetables (2,160 hectares, or 34.8%). Potatoes were planted on 6,810 hectares, or 33.1% of the target, maize – on 274,800 hectares, 26%.

A total of 1,411,200 hectares of soil (63.5% of the plan) was prepared for sowing spring crops. This year, these crops will be planted on the area of 2,221,900 hectares.
