Southeast Asia's first Belarus' tractor assembly plant opens in Cambodia

MINSK, 27 March (BelTA) – Southeast Asia's first plant to assemble Belarusian tractors opened in Cambodia on 27 March, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

Taking part in the plant inauguration ceremony were Belarus' Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei, representatives of the central government, ministries, business community and public of Cambodia and a business delegation of Belarus – a total of about a thousand guests. Over 400 tractors of various modifications and capacities will be delivered to Cambodia and the neighboring states every year during the first stage of the joint project.

After the inauguration ceremony, the delegations were shown the assembly line of the plant. A Cambodian minister personally tested the first Belarusian tractor assembled in Cambodia.

The Foreign Ministry reminded that Vladimir Makei's ongoing visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia that started on 26 March is the first official visit of the Belarusian Foreign Minister to this country in the history of the bilateral diplomatic relations. During the visit Vladimir Makei met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hor Namhong to discuss Belarusian-Cambodian cooperation in politics, trade, economy and humanitarian field, contacts in banking and finances, establishment of assembly plants and implementation of joint projects. The parties also discussed the program of the official visit of the Cambodian Premier to Belarus scheduled for 23-25 April.

Hor Namhong informed Vladimir Makei about the political situation in Cambodia, the country's social and economic development prospects and the development of the agricultural sector. The focus was made on the expansion of the legal framework of bilateral cooperation.

The foreign ministers of Belarus and Cambodia signed an intergovernmental agreement on visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic and service passports.

Vladimir Makei also met with the Minister of Education, Youth and Sport of Cambodia to discuss cooperation prospects in science and education, including educational programs for Cambodian nationals at Belarusian educational institutions. The Cambodian partners expressed a deep interest in the training of Cambodian students at universities and vocational colleges of Belarus.
