Some 70% of buckwheat areas harvested in Belarus

MINSK, 13 September (BelTA) - Belarusian farmers have cleared 70.3% of areas planted to buckwheat, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

Belarusian agricultural enterprises have harvested cereals and leguminous crops (including maize) from 2.158 million hectares, which is 87.4% of the targeted area. Progress was at 88.8% (356,900ha) in Brest Oblast, 97.9% (350,100ha) in Vitebsk Oblast, 83.9% (350,400ha) in Gomel Oblast, 87.3% (310,500ha) in Grodno Oblast, 84.2% (455,000ha) in Minsk Oblast, and 84.8% (335,600ha) in Mogilev Oblast.

Maize has been harvested from an area of 2,880ha, producing 23,100 tonnes with the average yield at 80.3 centners per hectare. Rapeseed harvest has reached 886,900 tonnes with the average yield at 25.2 centners per hectare. Excluding this crop, all kinds of agricultural enterprises have gathered in 8.187 million tonnes of cereals.

Millet has been harvested from an area of 8,840ha, producing 19,900 tonnes with the average yield at 22.6 centners per hectare. Buckwheat has been harvested from an area of 24,300ha (70.3% of the area under this crop), producing 33,000 tonnes with the average yield at 13.6 centners per hectare.

Sugar beet has been harvested from 5,990ha, which makes up 6.5% of the targeted area.

Potatoes have been harvested from 4,440ha (17.1% of the target area).

The procurement plan for 2022 will make up 811,400 tonnes of grain.
