Snopkov: Belarus is food self-sufficient

MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – The level of food security in Belarus is high. The country is self-sufficient in meat and milk, Belarusian First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov said at a joint meeting of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus on 25 May, BelTA has learned.

“Food security in the country is maintained at a high level. We implement five-year programs for the development of the country's agro-industrial complex which ensures its sustainable growth. Our country is fully self-sufficient (more than 100%) in meat, milk, vegetable oil and sugar. The country is over 90% self-sufficient in potatoes, vegetables and gourds,” said Nikolai Snopkov.

The government continues to support the purchase of agricultural machinery of domestic production. This helped farmers get more than 1,700 items of machinery and equipment in 2021.

A total of Br1.2 billion was allocated to subsidize the agro-industrial complex in 2021. “The systemic support of food production gives a return and helped our country increase food exports to $6.7 billion last year,” the first vice premier said.
