Senator visits manufacturing sites of OAO Horizont

MINSK, 13 January (BelTA) – Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova visited manufacturing sites of OAO Managing Company of the Holding Company Horizont on 13 January, BelTA has learned.

The key purpose of the visit was to evaluate prospects of Horizont's developing the territories located within limits of Kuibysheva Street, Masherova Avenue, Krasnaya Street, and Kiseleva Street, including possible applications for and the reconstruction of vacant buildings and structures. The relevant instructions were issued by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko as he visited Horizont on 5 January.

Natalya Kochanova noted it is necessary to effectively use every square meter of the company's territory for the sake of setting up new manufacturing divisions in order to provide people with jobs and for the enterprises to benefit the state. The possibility of using the territory for setting up R&D facilities, an education center, for the development of manufacturing based on new and high technologies, for the expansion of healthcare services for the general public is under consideration. This territory should be used for the benefit of the state and residents of the country, the senator noted. The Industry Ministry, the Minsk city administration, and the potential of the scientific community – the State Science and Technology Committee and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus – will be actively involved in this work.

“Horizont's products should be integrated into the economy and actively used in the national education system and the healthcare system. We don't have much time, this is why the decision on the matter has to be made soon,” the president's plenipotentiary representative for the city of Minsk stressed.

Director of ZAO Horizont-Belinvest-Developer Company Inna Kovaleva added that a concept for reconstructing the city block Horizont uses for manufacturing had been worked out. “The concept has been submitted for public hearings in order to make minor adjustments and get down to the project's implementation already,” she said. “The territory was initially used to make Horizont TV sets. Later on the manufacturing division was relocated to Sofyi Kovalevskoi Street while preparations began to prepare the vacated area for implementing the project. It is a downtown area and it is necessary to make the most effective investments in this location.” Inna Kovaleva stressed that they would focus on manufacturing that relies on intellectual work.
