Selling Russian oil to Belarus on premium terms open to debate

MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak has explained to a BelTA reporter on what terms Russian oil is sold to Belarus.

Alexander Novak said: “The price for the oil Russian enterprises sell to Belarusian customers is absolutely determined by the market today. If there is a discount for Russian oil, it means the oil refineries get it with a discount as well.”

Asked whether Belarus may get some premium terms for buying Russian oil, the deputy prime minister admitted that the possibility may be discussed during negotiations between Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of Russia Vladimir Putin in Minsk.

“The matter may be discussed. In any case we are not talking about selling oil below the market price. If you need some preferences, they have to be authorized at the interstate level,” Alexander Novak said.
