Russia's Udmurtia interested in cooperation with Belarus in mechanical engineering, food industry

MINSK, 2 November (BelTA) – Russia's Udmurtia is interested in cooperation with Belarus in mechanical engineering and the food industry, Mikhail Khomich, Permanent Representative for the Head of the Udmurt Republic under the President of the Russian Federation– Deputy Prime Minister of the Udmurt Republic, told the journalists before the meeting of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and this Russian region, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is the main trading partner for us. The figures also confirm this. Our cooperation has been growing very rapidly. We are interested in Belarusian mechanical engineering, machine tool engineering, agricultural and passenger vehicles, food products,” Mikhail Khomich noted.

“The delegation from Udmurtia, which is now visiting Belarus, is committed to cooperation. It will visit Belarusian Railways, Belneftekhim, other concerns, housing and municipal services, mechanical engineering organizations,” Chairman of the Belarusian State Property Committee Dmitry Matusevich said. “Plans are in place to discuss the setting up of joint ventures. We supply our equipment to the region. For example, in August we shipped the first batch of Belarusian MAZ buses (30 units). This year's target is 100 units. These purchases were made by a private company, that appreciated the quality of our mechanical engineering products. The trade with Udmurtia has increased this year as well. Our traditional products were in great demand. Cheese exports increased sevenfold. Woodworking products sold well, too. It has always been important for Belarus to supply other domestic products and goods to the region. We have mutually beneficial cooperation and we have become the second biggest trading partner for the region,” he said.

The meeting will be held as part of the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Udmurtia on trade, economic, scientific, technical, ecological, humanitarian and cultural cooperation signed at the 8th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia.

The agenda includes issues of setting up a joint integrated dealer and service center between representatives of MAZ- BELAVTOMAZ and AMKODOR Managing Holding Company, cooperation of the Belarusian Railways with the enterprises of Udmurtia to elaborate and implement mutually beneficial processes, location of agro-industrial facilities in this Russian region, participation of Belarusian machinery and equipment manufacturers in programs to upgrade the material and technical base of Udmurtia enterprises.
