Russia’s Magadan Oblast seeks to tap into capabilities of Belarusian mechanical engineering industry

MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – Belarus and  Magadan Oblast can significantly increase bilateral cooperation, primarily thanks to the potential of the Belarusian manufacturing sector, Governor of Russia’s Magadan Oblast Sergey Nosov said at a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 20 May, BelTA has learned.

Magadan Oblast is a mining region, so we are primarily interested in mechanical engineering. "Our business, both gold mining companies and heavy-duty equipment maintenance companies, believe that the time has come to tap into fraternal relations, to show fraternal support in everything. Not only in foreign policy, but also in domestic policy. The business is committed to cooperation with the Republic of Belarus and makes good proposals not only in terms of purchases and supplies but also maintenance," Sergey Nosov emphasized.

Sergey Nosov believes that Belarus and Magadan Oblast have a lot of opportunities to boost cooperation. So far, this interaction, in his opinion, is at a low level. "As for our cooperation, in my opinion, it is insufficient today, taking into account the capabilities of the Belarusian manufacturing sector and the entire economy of Belarus," the governor said.
When talking to the media he clarified that Magadan gold mining enterprises are now replacing Japanese and American equipment. "We believe that the presence of Belarusian mechanical engineering goods can be increased by 40-50%. This will be right, because we have no doubts about the quality. We need to organize both deliveries and, most importantly, maintenance. Not only in Magadan but also onsite,” the head of the region added.

The Russian governor also said that he has a special regard to Belarus: at one time his aunt worked in Minsk, then she returned to the Urals. "She has good memories of people and passed them over to me," he said.
