Russian PM: EAEU proves its worth and resilience in the face of new challenges

CHOLPON-ATA, 25 August (BelTA) - The Eurasian Economic Union has proved its worth and resilience in the face of the new challenges, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said as the heads of delegations of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council met with Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov with in Kyrgyzstan on 25 August, BelTA has learned.

"Today we will consider quite difficult changes, which, among other things, have been provoked by the collective actions of the West. The Eurasian Economic Union has proved its worth and resilience in the difficult situation. We have been responding in a coordinated manner to the new challenges and have been working to prevent the deterioration of our economies by taking joint action to mitigate the impact of restrictions. We also provide support to businesses and, above all, to small and medium-sized enterprises. We see positive results in agriculture, industry. The rate of unemployment is decreasing, much has been done to remove barriers to the free movement of goods, services, capital and labor," Mikhail Mishustin said.

He stressed that amid the sanctions, new opportunities are opening up and now it is very important to seize them: to advance industrial cooperation, to launch new joint projects, including high-tech ones. "This will ensure the independence of the EAEU from imports. We also need to accelerate the digitalization of economic processes throughout the Eurasian Economic Union, to work actively in the field of innovation, e-commerce," the Russian Prime Minister said.

"Today, the most important thing is to eliminate restrictions to the development of cooperation in the EAEU and prevent the emergence of barriers. The benefits of trade cooperation within the framework of the EAEU are obvious to everyone. I am sure that we will not allow ill-wishers to drive a wedge between our countries and our peoples. We must do everything necessary for the well-being of our citizens," Mikhail Mishustin summed up.

The heads of government of the EAEU countries are in Kyrgyzstan for the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Cholpon-Ata on 25-26 August.
