Rosselkhoznadzor: Belarus accounts for almost 100% of Russia’s dairy imports

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) - Belarus took a share of almost 100% of Russian dairy imports in 2024, the newspaper Izvestia learned from Rosselkhoznadzor.

In 2024, Belarus remained the leader in the supply of milk, meat and eggs to the Russian market. Belarus ensured absolute dominance in a number of categories of goods.

Last year 94% of dairy products supplied to Russia from abroad were imported from Belarus. Belarus is also the leader in the supply of eggs to the Russian market - it accounts for 87% of total imports.

In addition, Belarus accounts for more than 50% of Russia’s meat product imports. “In 2024, the country's share in beef shipments amounted to 46%, meat and poultry by-products - 51%, finished meat products - 97%,” Rosselkhoznadzor said. In addition, the figure stood at 17% in shipments of fish products.

“Belarusian products have a good reputation and enjoy a steady demand among Russian consumers due to the high quality of food products and competitive prices,” Igor Karavaev, Chairman of the Presidium of the Association of Retail Trade Companies (ACORT), explained to Izvestia.

According to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, Belarus is one of the country's largest partners in the agro-industrial complex. “Today there is a close interaction between the countries, within which mutual trade is actively developing, including on the basis of supply and demand balances for certain types of food (milk, meat, sugar and so on). Dialogue is carried out both bilaterally and through the Union State, within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States,” the press service of the ministry said.

State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev told Izvestia that the trade between Belarus and Russia in 2024 may reach $60 billion. Head of the Belarusian Research Center at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolai Mezhevich noted that not only the trade in general is growing, but also the shares of the countries in the structure of each other's trade. The share of the Russian Federation in the import of Belarus in 2024 amounted to about 57%, which has been the maximum value in recent years. In turn, the Belarusian component in Russian imports rose to 10%, which is twice as high as in the last decade.
