Regional development in focus of Belarus' program 2021-2025

MINSK, 31 August (BelTA0 - Belarus' program on social and economic development for 2021-2025 suggests an algorithm for transforming the country's territories into strong regions, Deputy Economy Minister Anzhelika Nikitina said at a regular meeting of the permanent seminar at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from the press service of the Economy Ministry.

"First, we intend to reboot the potential of cities with a population of more than 80,000. In each such region, we are planning to set up two to three new enterprises that have no analogues in the country. Secondly, the development of 13 specialized clusters will contribute to the economic and innovative progress of the regions. Thirdly, we intend to apply new approaches to the territories with preferential regimes. The emphasis is on individual work with an investor: everyone will be able to choose the most suitable and attractive set of benefits and preferences. Fourthly, we are going to focus more on the territories affected by the Chernobyl accident. There we will place an emphasis on tourism, traditional crafts, recreational parks. These are the lines of work that will provide jobs," Anzhelika Nikitina said.

The seminar discussed the priorities of economic policy in the innovative areas of activity of Belarus and Russia in the context of the development of the common economic space, the investment policy, interaction between the two countries in import substitution, and also the main areas and prospects of cross-border and interregional economic cooperation.
