Rail operators of Belarus, Azerbaijan sign cooperation agreement

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – Belarusian Railway and Azerbaijan Railways have signed a cooperation agreement, BelTA learned from the press center of Belarusian Railway.

The document was signed a day before, during the 11th session of the Belarus-Azerbaijan intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation. The agreement is designed to utilize transport and transit potential of the railway operators with a view to increasing their share on the Eurasian market of railway transportation and logistics services. The document provides for expanding railway transportation along the Belarus-Azerbaijan-Turkey route using the opportunities offered by the new rail link project Baku-Tbilisi-Kars as well as rail transportation along the Belarus-Azerbaijan-Iran route within the framework of the western part of the International North-South Transport Corridor.

The parties will work on digitalizing transport services and introducing new technology in transportation and logistics. They will also cooperate while conducting market research of transportation and logistics services.

The parties will study a possibility to launch rail passenger services between Belarus and Azerbaijan. Other important areas of cooperation will include supplies of railway-related products and participation of R&D and development companies of Belarus and Azerbaijan in designing and building railway facilities. Apart from that, the two companies agreed to share best practices in personnel training and retraining and in social field.
