Putin praises EAEU role as global development center

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has rightfully established itself as one of the key centers of global development, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session of the Eurasian Economic Forum in Minsk on 26 June, BelTA has learned.
Vladimir Putin noted that several hundred representatives of large, medium, and small Russian businesses have arrived in Minsk. These are individuals directly involved in developing business ties with EAEU countries, who understand the benefits of integration and what still needs to be done to improve conditions for mutual trade and investment partnerships.

The Russian leader also pointed out that the forum included seminars where various issues were discussed. He emphasized that all useful ideas, recommendations, and proposals would be taken into account in the ongoing efforts to strengthen the Eurasian Economic Union.

“On 1 January [2025], the EAEU celebrated its 10th anniversary. Over this time, it has undoubtedly grown stronger and become a successful integration alliance. Its overall economic potential has significantly increased, and the EAEU has rightfully established itself as one of the key centers of global development,” the Russian president said.

The GDP of EAEU member states has grown from $1.6 trillion to $2.6 trillion. Trade with third countries has increased by 38%, reaching $800 billion. “This is a trade volume comparable to that of the world’s leading economic powers. It is a solid figure - $800 billion. The total volume of mutual trade within the union has doubled to $97 billion. Notably, 93% of transactions between our countries are conducted in national currencies,” Vladimir Putin stressed.
