Protocol to agreement on parallel operation of Belarusian, Russian power grids ratified

MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – During the first session of the eighth-convocation House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus members of the parliament passed a bill on ratifying the protocol on amending and expanding the agreement between the Belarusian government and the Russian one on measures meant to ensure parallel operation of Belarus’ joint energy system and Russia’s of 15 March 2021, BelTA has learned.

The protocol on amending and expanding the intergovernmental agreement was signed in Moscow on 23 November 2023.

The protocol updates the names of the Russian legal persons that participate in ensuring the parallel operation of the two national power grids. The relations Belarusian and Russian authorized commercial entities maintain in the course of activating and deactivating power grid equipment and energy generators and in the course of operating this equipment during emergencies are addressed. The document also provides for ensuring a balance of the active power of the Belarusian power grid and the Russian one in cases of extreme misbalance of active power due to the disconnection of energy generators. Apart from that, the terminology used by the agreement will be brought into compliance with the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty of 29 May 2014.

The protocol’s realization will allow improving security and reliability of parallel operation of Belarus’ joint energy system and Russia’s.
