Progress in realizing national action plan on Belarusian nuclear power plant stress tests noted

MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) – Experts of the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG) have noted progress of the Belarusian side in realizing the national action plan on stress tests of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The group's head Petteri Tiippana made the relevant statement in a video hosted by the YouTube channel of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA has learned.

ENSREG experts visited the Belarusian nuclear power plant site on 31 August – 2 September. Petteri Tiippana said: “We had a very successful mission in February 2021. Our expectations regarding the current mission are also high. For now I can say we've seen what we'd intended to. We've held all the necessary discussions with Belarusian specialists and more than that. We've also studied the necessary documentation. Respectively we believe the current mission is a success.”

In his words, the task the mission was supposed to accomplish has been fulfilled but the work continues. “We are about to finish our visit to Belarus. After that we will get down to preparing the final version of our report. We will discuss the text of this document with the Belarusian side. After that we will deem our peer review work completed,” the group's head said.

Petteri Tiippana added: “One can already say that in the last three years progress was achieved both by the regulatory authority Gosatomnadzor and by the operating company BelNPP with regard to the improvement of the national action plan on stress tests of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. Previously, in 2018 we already prepared a report with recommendations. We see that substantial progress has been secured in realizing the suggested measures.”
