Potato harvest in Belarus nearly complete

MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) – As of 14 October, Belarusian farmers harvested potatoes from the area of 15,900 hectares, reaching 89.6% of the plan. Belarusian agricultural organizations collected 494,600 tonnes of potatoes with the average yields of 310.5 centners per hectare, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.  

Belarus has also harvested over 1.67 million tonnes of maize (yields at 79.2 centners per hectare). Farmers cleared a total of 211,100 hectares under grain maize (70.8% of the plan), over 19 million tonnes of silage and green maize (yields at 235 centners per hectare). Silage and green maize have been cleared from the area of 810,500 hectares (85% of the target).

Farmers have harvested about 2.6 million tonnes of sugar beet, with average yields of 460 centners per hectare (54.1% of the plan).

As of 14 October, farmers have collected 96,300 tonnes of vegetables (67.4%).  Vegetable yields (exclusive of peas) are at 340.5 centners per hectare.
