PM: New automated system will track entire pricing value chain

MINSK, 24 July (BelTA) - The new automated system will track the entire pricing value chain, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said during a meeting of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers, BelTA has learned.

"Last year, we decided to set up an effective system for monitoring prices for imported goods. This especially applied to those categories of goods that are not produced in Belarus or are produced in insufficient quantities in order to avoid the supply of such goods at inflated prices. Despite the ongoing manual regulation and fairly strict restrictions, some importers still find ways to maximize their profits. In this regard, in 2023, a pilot digital project was launched in relation to foreign-made goods," Roman Golovchenko said.

It helped develop a prototype of the automated information system Price Analysis. "It is obvious that the functionality, which is focused on online processing of data only on imported goods, did not fully reflect market trends. In this regard, the key task of the Price Analysis system for 2024 is to be able to administer and track the entire chain of movement from the importer, manufacturer to the end consumer of both imported and domestic goods, i.e. throughout the market. In fact, the matter is about the ability to see online the entire chain: from the arrival of goods on the market to the shelves. The automated information system Price Analysis should make it possible to quantitatively and qualitatively assess inflationary processes and their causes, and strengthen the control and supervisory capacity of state bodies and to improve interdepartmental coordination in this area," the prime minister said.

According to him, such a system will make it possible to develop prompt proposals on measures of economic regulation to ensure a balance in the consumer goods market, determine the trends in this market, and predict possible consequences. "The mechanism is quite complex, because it is necessary to compile information from a significant number of information systems of various government agencies. Accordingly, some adjustment of the legislative framework will be required," the Belarusian head of government added.
