PM: Belarus views Tanzania as key partner in East Africa

MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) – Belarus considers Tanzania an important partner in East Africa, Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said during the talks with Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa in Minsk on 22 July, BelTA learned.

Aleksandr Turchin noted that this is the first visit of such level from Tanzania to Belarus. "We regard it as evidence of special attention to the development of Belarusian-Tanzanian relations. I am happy to note the positive dynamics in the development of bilateral relations in recent years," he said.

The potential for cooperation is far from exhausted, Aleksandr Turchin added. "The Republic of Belarus considers Tanzania as an important partner in East Africa and is ready to support your country in its aspirations for economic development and prosperity, to fully contribute to strengthening our mutually beneficial relations. We are aware of Tanzania's large-scale programs for economic development, agriculture, transport sector, education, and healthcare. We see significant prospects for enhancing cooperation in such areas as mechanical engineering, petrochemicals, medicines, food, and military-technical industries, as well as tourism," the Belarusian head of government noted.

Belarus is eager to supply a wide range of quarry, road construction, utility, firefighting, and other equipment, the prime minister said. "We propose to contribute to ensuring Tanzania's food security and to adapt the machinery to Tanzania's needs: tractors and various attachments for them, grain harvesters, grain trucks, grain storage and drying complexes," Aleksandr Turchin noted. "We are ready to share knowledge, technologies, expertise, provide service support and training for technical personnel, and work on implementing joint programs and projects. Our proposal is based on the existing experience of implementing agricultural mechanization programs in Zimbabwe and Nigeria. Our machinery is also well known in other African countries."

During the official visit Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa will tour the Belarusian industrial flagships and thus will see for himself that Belarus takes seriously its reputation as a reliable and proven partner. Aleksandr Turchin is confident that Belarusian machinery will prove its worth in Tanzania as well.

“The development of healthcare and pharmaceuticals that focus on human life is a priority for any country," he believes. "I am proud to note that the medical sector has also become a hallmark of Belarus today. Our achievements in transplantology, cardiology, oncology, rehabilitation, and maternal and child healthcare are widely known around the world. We have good experience in organizing healthcare management systems, including developing medical care systems in rural communities,” the prime minister noted.

Belarusian colleges and universities are ready to admit Tanzanian youth and organize personnel training and internships in fields of interest: agriculture, engineering and technical specialties, medicine, internal security and military affairs.

"In addition, Belarus is open to expanding imports from Tanzania, including goods for processing and sale in the Eurasian Economic Union market - coffee, tea, nuts, cotton, fruits and other products," Aleksandr Turchin stated.
The Belarusian prime minister emphasized that Belarus is ready to work on establishing new sustainable business ties and creating favorable conditions for business.
"I reaffirm Belarus’ commitment to elevating our bilateral relations to a new level through mutually beneficial projects following your visit. I am confident that the documents that we are planning to sign today and the future joint trade and economic cooperation committee will provide fresh momentum," he added.
