PM: Belarus seeks stronger partnership with China’s CITIC Group

MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) - Belarus shows interest in further development of partnership with China’s CITIC Group Corporation, Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said as he met with Chairman of the Board of Directors of CITIC Group Xi Guohua on 20 June, BelTA has learned.

“China is not just a country on our list of trade and economic partners. China is our ironclad brother, whom we can rely on even in the most difficult times,” Aleksandr Turchin said.

Belarus has great respect for CITIC Group, a corporation founded in 1979, he said. “Originally focused on attracting foreign investment in China, the company is now a global player, one of the world’s 500 largest companies. We highly appreciate your experience and a significant number of joint projects. The leadership of your corporation have met with the president of our country seven times, which indicates a high level of trust and interest in the further development of our partnership,” the prime minister said.

In his opinion, it is necessary to reach a new, more comprehensive level of cooperation. “A lot of work has been done, but I am confident we can achieve more. Joint projects between Belarus and China should correspond to the level set by the leaders of our countries - the level of all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership. In August 2024 Premier of the State Council of China Li Qiang paid an official visit to Belarus. During the visit we identified key tasks for the governments of the two countries in the near future. Among the most promising and necessary for our country are the development of productive forces of a new quality, the promotion of scientific and technological innovations, the development of new industrial sectors, and the modernization of existing ones. In my opinion, we need to work with the corporation to reach a new level. Not only should we build and implement projects at a qualitative and efficient level, but we should also move towards more complex forms of cooperation,” the Belarusian head of government said.
