PM: Belarus-Iran cooperation rests on high level of mutual understanding

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – Belarus-Iran cooperation between rests on a high level of mutual understanding and rapid development in almost all the areas, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with First Vice President of Iran Mohammad Mokhber on 22 November, BelTA has learned.

“Today's meeting is a very important page in the history of the Belarusian-Iranian relations. The interaction between our countries rests on a high level of mutual understanding and rapid development practically in all the areas. This is happening not because of those illegitimate sanctions, but contrary to them. The tone for this interaction is set by our leaders - the President of the Republic of Belarus and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Their regular meetings and iron will give the necessary impetus to the constructive dialogue at all levels,” said Roman Golovchenko.

According to the prime minister, Belarusian-Iranian relations have been flourishing this year without exaggeration. “Even in the most difficult times we have never interrupted an active political, humanitarian and economic dialogue. But now it is very important to jointly meet the challenges that the collective West poses to us,” the Belarusian head of government said.

In January-September 2022, trade between Belarus and Iran skyrocketed nine times year-on-year to total $63.6 million. Exports surged 4.4 times to $48.6 million; imports went up by 41.8% to $ 5 million. Belarus had a trade surplus of $33.6 million.
