PM: Belarus' government will do everything necessary for IT sector

MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian government will do everything necessary for the development of the IT sector, Belarus' Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at the 6th Belarusian People's Congress on 12 February, BelTA has learned.

“A huge potential is concentrated in the services sector. We have made considerable progress in the IT sector. We will do everything necessary to keep the momentum,” Roman Golovchenko said.

Along with improving the quality of medical and other services for the population, the government wants to increase the export of services 1.5 times within the next five years. “As a result, the services sector will account for more than a half of the economic sector, while the knowledge-intensive sectors (IT, education, science, healthcare) will account for its one-fifth. We expect to reach $12 billion in the export of services by the end of the five-year period,” the prime minister said.

According to him, the developed IT sector will ensure a large-scale implementation of digital technologies, from infrastructure and scientific support to informatization in traditional industries and services. Implementation of 5G in Belarus will help develop digital technologies further.

According to the e-government project, a number of services for business and citizens are to be digitalized. For example, entrepreneurs will be able to do state registration of rights to real estate, land, obtain licenses, permits for advertising without the need to leave their offices. With the introduction of electronic ID cards citizens will have the opportunity to use a personal account to conduct official correspondence with the government agencies, order certificates and documents without visiting government agencies. Roman Golovchenko added that there are plans to introduce electronic patient cards and a remote health monitoring service.

More than 21 million square meters of housing will be built in Belarus by 2025. All-electric houses will make up at least 4 million square meters of the amount. The share of individual housing is planned to be increased to 40%.
