PM: Belarus’ exports to Russia’s Astrakhan Oblast are on the rise

ASTRAKHAN, 31 January (BelTA) – Belarusian exports to Astrakhan Oblast are growing, Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with Astrakhan Oblast Governor Igor Babushkin, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus increased exports to your region in 2022. The exports kept growing even throughout 2023, although it was hard to beat the high figures of 2022. In January-November 2023 we added up more than 6%. The opening of a trade and services center in Astrakhan paid off; in particular, the supply of tractors to the region has more than doubled. I believe that we should use this facility to increase the supplies of many other products, including agricultural machinery,” Roman Golovchenko said.

He suggested discussing the reasons behind a slight drop in supplies from Astrakhan Oblast to Belarus and taking measures to reverse the situation. The prime minister of Belarus also deems it necessary to intensify cooperation in construction and the agricultural sector. “These two sectors have a lot of untapped potential, but so far this potential has not translated into meaningful joint projects. We need to discuss what needs to be done to achieve results,” the Belarusian head of government emphasized.

Igor Babushkin noted that Belarus is a very important strategic partner for Astrakhan Oblast. “I am glad that our meetings are regular and productive. Due to our consistent joint work, our trade, economic and humanitarian contacts are expanding. We have made progress in implementing the cooperation road map with Belarus, but there are still bottlenecks that we need to address,” he concluded.
