Planting of winter cereals on home stretch in Belarus

MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) – Belarusian agricultural workers are completing the planting of winter cereals for grain, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

Belarusian agricultural enterprises have harvested cereals and leguminous crops (including maize) from 2.275 million hectares, which is 93.2% of the targeted area. Progress was at 97% (387,000ha) in Brest Oblast, 98.9% (354600ha) in Vitebsk Oblast, 92.5% (370,100ha) in Gomel Oblast, 93.5% (331,700ha) in Grodno Oblast, 90.2% (486,000ha) in Minsk Oblast, and 88.8% (346,200ha) in Mogilev Oblast. All in all, 8.762 million tonnes of grain was threshed by agricultural enterprises and private farms.

Maize for grain has been harvested from an area of 107,300ha (39.4%), producing 750,800 tonnes with the average yield at 70 centners per hectare.

Sugar beet has been harvested from 60,200ha, which makes up 64.5% of the targeted area. Potatoes have been cleared from the area of 24,100 hectares or 92.6% of the plan. Other vegetables have been harvested from 4,480ha or 66.6% of the targeted area.

Belarusian agricultural workers have cleared 817,300 hectares of land under maize meant for silage and green fodder, which is 85.2% of the plan.

Belarusian agricultural workers have planted winter cereals for grain on 1.459 million hectares, which is 95.2% of the plan.
