Plans to sell Belarusian products at China's Yiwu small commodity market

MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) – Belarus has plans to sell its products at China's largest small commodity wholesale market Yiwu, BelTA learned from the public relations department of the Belarusian Economy Ministry.

A Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Nikolai Snopkov and Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky is currently on a visit to China. The visit anticipates Belarus' participation in the international forum One Belt, One Road in Beijing.

“Yesterday the Belarusian delegation paid a visit to Yiwu, a city in China's Zhejiang province. Twenty years ago, Yiwu was a little-known agricultural settlement. Today it is a rapidly growing center of international small commodity trade,” the ministry said. During the meeting with Yiwu authorities, Nikolai Snopkov expressed Belarus' great interest in strengthening the cooperation with China, including through the implementation of joint initiatives. The Belarusian official stressed the importance of collaboration among the regions.

“We are interested in any positive activities that would contribute to the development of mutually beneficial relations. We hope Belarus will have an opportunity to sell its products at Yiwu market. The country is ready to step up the cooperation in trade. This will create conditions for further intensification of the ties among our regions and countries,” Nikolai Snopkov said. The parties agreed to give thought to the possibility of selling Belarusian products in Yiwu, including via online platforms.

Earlier this week, the Belarusian delegation met with China's Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan. The parties discussed current matters of Belarus-China cooperation, including the development of the industrial park Great Stone, the implementation of new projects in such areas as investment, technology and economy, and the establishment of platforms to step up trade and logistics within the framework of the Silk Road Economic Belt.

“In his previous position as Deputy Minister of Commerce and Chinese International Trade Representative, Zhong Shan used to head the Chinese part of the joint commission for trade and economic cooperation and the working group on the China-Belarus industrial park. Zhong Shan said that as the Minister of Commerce, he will further coordinate the bilateral cooperation with Belarus and the project of the industrial park, which once again shows that China pays much attention to the development of the economic ties with our country,” the ministry noted.
