Plans to amend Eurasian Economic Union's Customs Code to regulate online trade

MOSCOW, 14 July (BelTA) – The Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission has approved a draft protocol on amending the Treaty on the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union to better regulate foreign online trade. The document was forwarded to the EAEU member states for intrastate reconciliation, the commission's press service told BelTA.

The draft protocol specifies how goods, which are bought by natural persons online, are to be imported into the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union. It also specifies peculiarities of the customs declaration of such goods, payment of customs duties, and the possibility of shipping such goods from a customs warehouse (a bonded warehouse). The document also introduces the notion “digital trade operator”.

Results of the discussion of the draft protocol by the EAEU member states will be discussed at premises of the Eurasian Economic Commission in H2 2021.
