Petrishenko: Belarus wants to see fewer exemptions to free trade in CIS

MOSCOW, 29 November (BelTA) - Belarus is in favor of reducing the number of exemptions to the free trade regime in the CIS, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko told the media following a meeting of the CIS Economic Council in Moscow on 29 November, BelTA has learned.

"A cross-cutting issue on the CIS economic agenda is the elimination of barriers in mutual trade, the reduction of the number of exemptions to the free trade regime in the CIS. The steps taken should contribute to the development of our multilateral mutually beneficial cooperation," Igor Petrishenko said.

According to him, the meeting discussed the prospects for further liberalization of trade in services. "The agreement on free trade in services is already in force for Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. After its full entry into force, further steps in this area will be possible for all countries," the deputy prime minister said.
At the meeting the Belarusian side made proposals to optimize the work of the CIS sectoral cooperation bodies, Igor Petrishenko added.
