MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) - Belarus is interested in the free movement of goods in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister, member of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission from Belarus Igor Petrishenko told the media ahead of a meeting of the EEC Council, BelTA has learned.
"We have more than 30 items on the agenda. We will look into the movement of our goods, the status of implementation of the agreement on the use of navigation seals in the EAEU to track transportation, and trade promotion. In 2021 the intra-union trade rose by 23%. This is very important for our country that has an open economy. For Belarus it is important to have no barriers and restrictions on the movement of our goods, including agricultural products. We will also discuss ways to accelerate the movement of goods that are subject to veterinary and phytosanitary control,” Igor Petrishenko said.
Following the instruction of the heads of state, the council will also explore ways to intensify the involvement of observer states (primarily Uzbekistan) in the EAEU work. Another relevant topic is the promotion of trade with third countries.
"We will also consider reducing tariff protection for a number of goods sensitive to our country. This is titanium oxide, which is used by Mogilevkhimvolokno. This will enable us to step up the production and export. A number of other issues related to customs tariff protection and favorable conditions for the movement of goods to the EAEU will be discussed," the deputy prime minister summed up.
