Over 7m tonnes of grain harvested in Belarus

MINSK, 17 August (BelTA) – More than 7 million tonnes of grain has already been harvested in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 17 August, grain and leguminous crops were harvested on the area of 1.9 million hectares, or 86.2% of the plan. Brest Oblast has taken the lead fulfilling 98.2% of the harvesting plan (331,6 00 hectares). Grodno Oblast cropped 95.7% (305,000 hectares), Gomel Oblast harvested 94% of the area (319,700 hectares), Minsk Oblast harvested 92.2% (447,000 hectares), Mogilev Oblast gathered 73.3% (246,500 hectares), Vitebsk Oblast harvested 64.2% (242,700 hectares).

All in all, 7.104 million tonnes of grain was threshed across the country with the average yield at 37.5 centners per hectare (in 2019, the yield as of the same date was 31.8 centners per hectare). Minsk Oblast harvested more than 1.8 million tonnes of grain, Grodno Oblast more than 1.4 million tonnes and Brest Oblast over 1.3 million tonnes.

Flax was harvested on the area of 42,400 hectares (87.2% of the area under this crop).

The second grass cutting was done on the area of 746,100 hectares (91.2% of the plan). Some 746,400 tonnes of hay (73.9% of the plan), 12.599 million tonnes of haylage (100%) and 619,400 tonnes of silage (3.23%) were stocked.

In total, there are plans to procure 9.3 million tonnes of fodder units of grass feed, most of them in Minsk Oblast and Brest Oblast. By this time, 43.4% of the plan has been fulfilled.
