Over 55% of export declarations cleared automatically by Vitebsk branch of Belarus' Customs in 2020

VITEBSK, 15 January (BelTA) – In 2020 the Vitebsk branch of the State Customs Committee of Belarus processed automatically (without involving human personnel) over 55% of the export declarations, BelTA has learned.

The introduction of modern information technologies has allowed increasing the volume of shipments of goods, which are cleared automatically. The volume of exported goods has quadrupled while the volume of imports into the territory the Vitebsk branch controls has increased by 2.9 times. Such groups of commodities are transported in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The automatic clearance is applied to exports, imports, and customs transit goods. Commercial entities have to send shipment declarations to the customs service using a special software product. The customs service server checks the submitted declarations and if certain conditions and criteria are met, the shipment is cleared automatically.

Combined with certain other measures, the automatic clearance can minimize personal contacts between drivers and customs personnel in the current epidemic situation. The technology reduces the customs declaration clearance time and the time vehicles spend at customs clearance stations. In 2020 the Vitebsk branch of the Belarusian customs service cleared over 95% of the goods, which are exported from the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union, within less than five minutes. Over 94% of the imports were cleared within less than two hours. The practice creates favorable conditions for border crossing and for merchandise transit across the Republic of Belarus.
