Over 3.2m Belarusians now enjoy broadband Internet access

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – Over 3.2 million Belarusians enjoy broadband Internet access, the Belarusian Communications and Informatization Ministry told BelTA.

Thanks to the construction and modernization of telecommunication networks the number of subscribers of fixed broadband Internet access totaled 3.227 million as of 1 January 2022. The number of IP television subscribers increased by about 10,200 to 2.343 million. Over 3.731 million subscribers are connected to the multiservice platform IMS, 116,000 up from 1 January 2021. The number of subscribers using GPON technology increased by 99,400 to 2.838 million.

According to the Communications and Informatization Ministry, Belarus' international bandwidth totaled 2,240 Gbit/s as of 1 January 2021.

As of 1 January 2022 there were 191 licensed telecommunication companies in Belarus.

The number of subscribers of mobile telecommunication services increased by about 56,000 in 2021 to 11.76 million. Second-generation (2G) mobile telecommunication services are available in 99.3% of the country's territory while the third generation (3G) is available in 98.4% of Belarus' territory. The population coverage and the territory coverage by the LTE technology increased considerably last year to reach 97.4% and 76.7% respectively as of late 2021.
