Over 300m kWh of electricity generated by Belarusian hydropower plants in 2023

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – Belarusian hydropower plants generated over 300 million kWh of electricity in 2023, the Belarusian Energy Ministry press service told BelTA.

The figure allowed substituting 32.6 million m3 of natural gas. Belarus has a total of 53 hydropower plants with the total output capacity close to 96MW. The largest ones are located in Vitebsk and Polotsk.

Deputy Energy Minister Olga Prudnikova noted that the overall output capacity of renewable energy sources in the country stands at 608MW. In addition to hydropower plants Belarus uses wind farms, solar energy, and biogas. These sources generated a total of 1.2 billion kWh of electricity last year.
