Opportunities for Belarus-Russia cooperation in power engineering analyzed

MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have agreed to polish off the remaining issues concerning cooperation in the sphere of energy industry. President of Russia Vladimir Putin made the statement during expanded negotiations with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko in the Palace of Independence in Minsk on 24 May, BelTA has learned.

According to the Russian head of state, Belarus-Russia cooperation in power engineering was one of the topics during the negotiations. He remarked that this industry represents one of the most important avenues of bilateral cooperation.

“There are certain agreements. I have no doubt all of them will be implemented. Colleagues have been given certain instructions: polish off the issues that are still standing. Those are essentially minor things. There is nothing substantial about it. Smooth work of the relevant enterprises in the fuel and energy complex will be ensured without a doubt,” the Russian president stressed.

Transport and logistics were mentioned as another high-priority cooperation area. “We have to recover and create new supply chains for deliveries to each other. We have to help each other in order to ensure uninterrupted operation of our enterprises, which cater to the markets of the two countries and to the markets of third states, which are willing to work with us. There are quite many states like that,” Vladimir Putin added.

During the negotiations the parties also discussed the advancement of cooperation in agriculture and interregional interaction. “We have always supported this interaction and will continue doing it because a significant volume of trade turnover is concentrated in the regional dimension,” the head of state said.
