Opinion: Belarusian scientists achieve fundamental world-level results

MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) - Belarusian scientists are achieving fundamental results that meet the world level, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), academician Vladimir Gusakov told the media on 11 March, BelTA has learned.

“Belarusian scientists achieve fundamental results that meet the world level. There are a lot of examples of innovations and scientific achievements of our scientists. The Academy of Sciences develops hundreds of them per year. Today, the NASB is an example of efficient integration of research and production components within the framework of a single complex structure, which develops in line with the scientific and production cooperation type. Basic research and R&D of domestic scientists are used to set up knowledge-intensive industries and systems in the Academy of Sciences, as well as in various sectors of the economy,” the chairman said. According to him, in 2020 alone the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was engaged in the implementation of about 2,000 agreements on the development of scientific and technical products.

Vladimir Gusakov said: as a result of the implementation of the state scientific and technical programs, with the Academy as a customer, some 11 new manufactures have been set up and the technical and technological preparation of 17 existing ones has been completed. In 2020, some 99.5% of all the produced goods in the country were made according to the NASB documents.

“Science is closely integrated into the Belarusian economy. It works with all major enterprises and manufacturers. Scientific support of a number of industries was successfully carried out in line with the framework of the country's largest state program on science-intensive technologies for 2016-2020. This includes the biotechnology industry, nuclear power development, the use of outer space, import substitution and other areas. The academy has set up more than 150 manufactures and production sites. Competitive biotechnology industry has been effectively developing in the country with scientific support of the National Academy of Sciences. A total of 57 biotechnologies were developed in 2020. They are the basis for the production of a wide range of new types of biotechnological products,” he added.

According to the chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences, the geography of international relations and foreign economic activities of the academy continue expanding. In 2020 the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus supplied its products to 17 countries of the European Union. Last year the export of goods to the EU countries exceeded $1.5 million. The academy supplies its products to many other countries, Vladimir Gusakov added.
