Number of self-employed Belarusians on the rise

MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – The number of self-employed businessmen increased in Belarus in H1 2019, BelTA learned from Deputy Director of the Entrepreneurship Department of the Belarusian Economy Ministry Dmitry Krasovsky on 11 September.

The official said that the number of small and medium enterprises increased in H1 2019. The number of self-employed businessmen rose by nearly 8,800 or 3.5% up from the beginning of the year. “We haven't seen such rapid growth for a long time. As for small and medium enterprises, their number rose by 2%,” Dmitry Krasovsky said.

The Economy Ministry representative attributed the dynamics to the measures taken to liberalize business operation terms. The simplified business startup procedures were mentioned. Now Belarusian private businesses can start working, earn money and then take steps to gradually fulfill all the procedures, standards, and requirements. “Over the course of more than one year some 9,000 commercial entities availed themselves of the ability to start a business by giving a notice. Of them 3,000 are in retail, 2,000 in transportation, and 1,000 in consumer services,” the official noted.
