No shortage of food expected in EAEU

MOSCOW, 30 April (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has enough resources to ensure a steady supply of food products, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Mikhail Myasnikovich said following the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council that took place in Kazan on 29-30 April with the participation of Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, BelTA has learned.

The prime minister reviewed the operation of the domestic market, especially food security issues, and other important matters, including measures to prevent crop diseases and mitigate their possible impact, Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

“We believe that the EAEU has achieved a high level of self-sufficiency. The EEC has worked hard to ensure a steady food supply,” Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed. “As this topic has been quite popular in mass media recently, I would like to assure that we have enough resources to ensure a stable supply of grain, meat, sugar, dairy products and other goods to the domestic market of the EAEU and even export the remaining products. This is why any volatility, for example, price volatility, is not caused by a deficit or other difficulties,” he explained.

“Of course, we should improve the management of these resources. This matter is currently on the agenda of the EEC,” Mikhail Myasnikovich added.
