No reasons to expect shortages of canned milk, meat in Belarus

MINSK, 6 April (BelTA) – There are no background causes for panic buying of canned milk and meat products, BelTA learned from Maria Klimova, Deputy Head of the Central Office for Processing Industry of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry, at a roundtable session held on 6 April to discuss pricing regulations and ways to satisfy consumer demand on the domestic market.

According to Maria Klimova, positive output dynamics is secured. Milk processing growth rate reached 102.5% in February 2022 while the production growth rate of butter reached 102.6%, fat cheese – 106%, including hard cheese and semi-hard cheese – 105%, soft cheese – 113%, whole milk products – 105.2%, cottage cheese – 106.5%. “Canned milk sold fast in the last two months. I'd like to assure you that there are plenty of foods like that in storage. The stock in storage exceeds 40% of the monthly demand of the domestic market while we produce 4.5 times more than we consume. There are no reasons for panic buying of either canned milk or tinned meat,” the official said.

The output of meat products is also in the rise. In February 2022 meat-packing plants accountable to the Agriculture and Food Ministry processed 106.3% of cattle in comparison with the relevant period of last year. Meat output growth rate reached 105%, including a considerable increase in beef production (111.6%), sausages (104.8%), meat semi-finished products (122%), and tinned meat (120%).
