MINSK, 3 December (BelTA) – There are no plans to raise the rate of the value-added tax (VAT) in Belarus up to Russia’s level yet, BelTA learned from Belarusian Finance Minister Yuri Seliverstov after the Belarusian parliament gave the second reading to the bill on the republican budget for the year 2026.
Yuri Seliverstov said: “We are not considering raising the VAT rate up to the Russian level for now. It is premature for us for now. We should look at [Russia’s and Kazakhstan’s] experience first and see how it works out for them.”
President of Russia Vladimir Putin has earlier signed the law on increasing the standard VAT rate up to 22% as from 1 January. The preferential VAT rate of 10% has been preserved for staple foods, medications, children’s goods, and other goods.
The VAT rate in Belarus stands at 20%, however, a number of goods and services enjoy a preferential VAT rate.
