New deputy prime minister instructed to dive deep into Belarusian manufacturing industry problems

MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has outlined a number of tasks for new Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Parkhomchik to resolve problems in the areas he oversees, BelTA learned after a meeting of Aleksandr Lukashenko and Piotr Parkhomchik in the Palace of Independence.

Piotr Parkhomchik told reporters: “First of all, the president congratulated me on the birthday and gave the relevant instructions concerning the development of our manufacturing industry.”

In his words, preventing a decrease in output volumes, ensuring the growth of export, and preventing the growth of the stock in storage are the key tasks. Piotr Parkhomchik said the Industry Ministry has no problems like that today. There is positive dynamics and results. But as far as individual industries are concerned such as the Belarusian state light industry concern Bellegprom, the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim, it is necessary to dive deep into their problems, find out all the reasons, and try to substantially affect them in order to secure positive dynamics.

Piotr Parkhomchik also mentioned that the head of state had traditionally drawn attention to import substitution. Specific projects were mentioned, for instance, the operation of Miory Rolling Mill (Miory Steel) where Aleksandr Lukashenko had been recently. “There is confidence that the steps that have been taken are already producing positive results. We will make and sell about 6,000 tonnes of tinned iron this month. It is a very good result. And most importantly there are orders for tinned iron for the next few months,” the deputy prime minister said.
