New Brest Oblast governor sets tasks for industrial development in region

MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) – The focus in Brest Oblast will be on the development of its industrial potential, Piotr Parkhomchik, who was appointed Brest Oblast Governor on 12 August, told the media, BelTA has learned.

The new governor emphasized the president's demand to focus on industrial development of the region in addition to the issues related to the agro-industrial sector, harvesting and a number of others.

“The president hopes that we will be able to deploy large-scale work in import substitution, investment development of industry, set up new enterprises,” Piotr Parkhomchik said. “There are plans that have been agreed with the former governor. We will do our best to decide on certain aspects regarding an absolutely new enterprise in Baranavichy by the end of this year.”

“In general, the region is more agriculturally-oriented. We will need to take a look in details, intensify the work on the ground,” Piotr Parkhomchik said.

He also cited some examples. “The battery factory in Pinsk is undergoing the second stage of modernization. It is a very important topic for the industry. This plant means the production of ordinary batteries and batteries for electric transport. We are going to deal with the matter. A pilot batch of the first five pieces will be produced this year to see how the market responds. We will also need to build additional capacities to produce batteries for cars in the Republic of Belarus,” the governor said.

“There are also agreements with our Chinese partners who are ready to help us in the matter,” he emphasized.

Piotr Parkhomchik served as Deputy Prime Minister before.
