
MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) – As much as 170,000 hectares of winter barley or 69.3% of the area under the crop has been harvested in Belarus, the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.
As much as 647,700 tonnes has been threshed, with the yield at 38.1 centners per hectare (above the last year’s level). As much as 86.6% of the area under the crop has been harvested in Brest Oblast, 93.1% in Gomel Oblast, 74.6% in Grodno Oblast, 67.3% in Mogilev Oblast, 53.7% in Minsk Oblast, 45.1% in Vitebsk Oblast. Grodno Oblast (50.7 centners per hectare), Minsk Oblast (45.6 centners per hectare), and Brest Oblast (45.3 centners per hectare) top the yield chart.
Flax has been harvested from 7,950 hectares or 16.5% of the target area. The work is most active in Brest Oblast where 54.3% of the area under the crop has been harvested.
Second grass cutting has been completed on an area of 593,000 hectares (55.5% of the target area). As much as 246,700 tonnes of hay (34.2% of the target) has been made in addition to nearly 9.7 million tonnes of haylage (69.3% of the target), including 244,500 tonnes in polymeric packaging. As much as 248,300 tonnes of silage has been made or 1.2% of the target. A total of over 2.9 million tonnes of grass fodder has been made or 29.1% of the target.
Apart from that, Belarusian agricultural enterprises keep chalking sour soils: dolomite powder is needed to neutralize excessive acidity and maintain an optimal soil environment.
