Nearly 4.5m tonnes of haylage stocked up in Belarus

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – Almost 4.5 million tonnes of haylage has been stockpiled in Belarus, the Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

As of 17 June, Belarusian agricultural workers did the first cutting of grass on 96.4% of the designated area in Brest Oblast, 30.7% in Vitebsk Oblast, 70.8% in Gomel Oblast, 67.3% in Grodno Oblast, 77.5% in Minsk Oblast, and 59.8% in Mogilev Oblast.

Grass was harvested from 754,900ha of grassland, 83.2% of the area. Belarusian agricultural workers harvested 82,200 tonnes of hay (8.6% of the target), 4,468,800 tonnes of haylage (33.3%), and 222,600 tonnes of silage (1.17%).

There are plans to produce a total of 9.6 million tonnes of feed units out of grass this year. So far 14% of the target has been produced. Belarusian farmers are supposed to stock up on nearly 19.8 million tonnes of silage, 13.2 million tonnes of haylage (including 1 million tonnes in polymeric packaging), and 955,200 tonnes of hay.
